The Remote Test Unit (RTU) is the core of the Remote Fiber Test System. It can accurately test hundreds of cable within a 300 square kilometers area. Faults, breaks and other event are detected and located automatically. This provides a cost effective alternative to the current methods that require dispatching personal with portable test equipment to find the problem.

 The RTU contains two types of optical test units, stabilized light source and OTDR, to probe fiber abnormality phenomenon. It utilizes stabilized light source to monitor network continuously. When the power meter obtain lower optical power than defined threshold, the OTDR will automatically initiates and accurately detects fiber fault location. This mechanism prolongs OTDR and OTAU lifetime and reliability
